Re:New DeKalb , Inc. Mission

Re:New DeKalb , Inc.’s mission is to expand, strengthen, and implement the redevelopment efforts in the city of DeKalb’s urban core and related adjacent areas.

Goals

RNDK is organized and chartered for the purpose of lessening the burden on local government of vacancy, unemployment, and community deterioration through a program of economic development and revitalization for the central business district and related adjacent areas. The primary objective of this corporation shall be to benefit the community by improving its urban core as measured by increased property development, employment, business volume and diversification and strengthening of the tax base. The vision and goals of the organization are to be consistent with those allowable under IRS provisions for non profit status as a 501(c)(3) organization.

Vision

RNDK will build upon the strong foundation created by Main Street DeKalb, Inc and remain dedicated to many of its revitalization efforts. As such, RNDK activities will continue to address the issues of appearance, promotion, redevelopment and utilization of space by business, residential and public interests. RNDK will expand upon the economic restructuring/development activities, starting by working to assist the efforts toward the implementation of a comprehensive downtown redevelopment. The efforts of RNDK will be conducted with the assistance of the City of DeKalb, Northern Illinois University, and downtown and other community stakeholders.

Recognizing the importance of the geographical connection between the NIU campus and the core district, activities of RNDK will include the area west of First Street to the Kishwaukee River at the eastern edge of the NIU campus. Similarly acknowledging the importance of the eastern approach to the downtown as setting the stage for the perception of the downtown district, RNDK will also work to coordinate its revitalization and enhancement efforts with those in place via the East Lincoln Highway Corridor redevelopment plan. This will allow for a stronger central DeKalb and for the development of a cohesive and viable east–west corridor.
